Before you buy a Labrador

A Labrador should not be given as a gift for the holidays or any other special occasion!! Please remember that getting a dog is a big responsibility, and your puppy will be with you for his entire life, not just while he is a cute little bundle.

As you consider making a puppy part of your family and your life please honestly evaluate your situation when reading the following:

1. Is there a place in my life for a dog?

2. Does everyone in the household agree with acquiring a puppy?

3. Will someone be available during the day to feed and let the puppy out?

4. Do we have enough space to have a Lab?

5. Labs are active and require adequate space to live and exercise. Are we prepared to exercise our puppy?

6. Do we have time to regularly groom and train our puppy?

7. Are we prepared that our puppy may cause some damage to our house and possessions?

8. Can we afford regular veterinarian care, feed, and supply costs associated with dog ownership for the next decade or more?

10. Labs have a life expectancy ranging from eight to sixteen years. Are we prepared to take our puppy with us through all of life's changes?
